3 Ways to Save on Home Cleaning Products has been published on Minimalist Finance

Cleaning products are part of almost every household budget, and they can be quite expensive. Between glass cleaner, disinfectant, laundry soap and other supplies needed for cleaning your home, cleaning products can take up a good chunk of the home maintenance fund. If you insist on eco friendly or natural cleaners, you will be spending even more.

While it’s important to live in a clean and comfortable home, you need to be comfortable with what you are paying for your products, too. Here are a few easy ways to save on household cleaners.

Make Your Own

Making your own household cleaners is not only a much cheaper option than buying expensive brand name products, but it’s also much better for your health and the environment.

Lemon, vinegar, Borax, baking soda, and even salt can be great for cleaning certain things (ie vinegar on glass) and will save you tons of money and the exposure to harmful chemicals.

Water it Down

Most store bought cleansers are very harsh and can be much stronger than necessary to get the job done.

Many of these cleansers can stand to be watered down with tap water, making it stretch over more cleanings and for a longer period of time. Again, this is better for the environment and your health, as well as your wallet.

Dollar Store Cleaners

Most household cleaners are made from the same types of chemicals. As a result, just like you can save money with store brand goods, you can save a lot of money by buying from the dollar store for your home cleaning needs.

Sponges, towels, rags, and spray bottles are also very economical at the dollar store as they tend to come in larger quantities for less money.

Make sure to smell any chemical cleaners that you are purchasing from the dollar store before taking it home to ensure that you are okay with the odor.
