Saving Money on Your Flight has been published on Minimalist Finance
Your flight is going to be one of the most expensive parts of travel. Flying is always costly, even if you get a deal on your flight ticket, and can far surpass the cost of accommodation, food, and shopping. However, there are ways to save money before you travel on airlines.
Be Flexible on Your Dates
Many airlines will have an option when you go to book online for date flexibility. If you can be flexible on the day that you leave, whether it be a Saturday or a Wednesday, you’ll be able to save quite a bit. There has been some conflicting studies on which is the cheapest day to fly, so your best bet is to just research.
Travel Rewards
A fan favorite for saving money on an airline is by using travel rewards cards. Instead of having just a plain Visa card, why not put all of that money you are spending to good use and accumulate points with which you can travel? You may not accumulate enough for a full flight by the end of the year, but at least you will be able to save.
Buy Discount Vouchers
One of the best travel money saving tips I’ve had was to buy vouchers for your airline of choice on either a gift card sale site, or a classifieds site like Craigslist. Usually people will sell them at a discount (ie a $300 travel credit for $275) and you’ll be able to save a bit here too. The reason this is such a good option is because you can pair it up with some other money saving tips.
Look at Surrounding Airports
Believe it or not, airports that are only an hour away from one another will have vastly different pricing. You may be able to get a much better deal at another airport that may be a bit farther away from you. Sometimes it can make a difference of hundreds of dollars.
Flights can be expensive, but there are always ways to find cheaper tickets. How have you found a good deal in the past?
